Hanoi (VNA) - Vietnam’s Asian Football Confederation U16 Women’s Championship 2017 qualification campaign kicks off on August 25 in Hanoi.
Vietnam is in Pool D with Iraq, Palestine, Australia, Uzbekistan and Hong Kong.
At the tournament press briefing on August 24, assistant coach Nguyen Thi Mai Lan said as the hosts, Vietnam are targeting victory.
“We are familiar with the pitch and the weather which are challenges for them [the other Pool D sides]. But we all know football is mystery and no one can predict results,” said Lan.
“Australia are the strongest team and landed in Vietnam about a week ago to train. Uzbekistan are also a team to watch due to their physical advantages,” said Lan.
“In competition everyone wants to win and we do too. The Vietnamese team will work on tactics for each rival.”
Vietnam will first play Uzbekistan on August 25 afternoon, Australia will face Palestine and Hong Kong will battle Iraq.
The qualifying matches run until September 3 at the Vietnam Youth Football Training Centre.
There are 24 teams divided into four groups taking part.
The winner from each group will qualify to for finals.
The top four teams from the last edition, the Democratic People Republic of Korea (DPRK), Japan, China and Thailand, have directly qualified for the finals.-VNA
