The Vietnam Agency for Radiation and Nuclear Safety (VARANS) and the Japan Nuclear Regulation Authority (NRA) are holding training courses on preventing the risk of fire at nuclear power plants in Hanoi from September 7-10.
The courses are specifically designed for VARANS officials on the assessment of the safety analysis report (SAR) and Japan’s experience in the field, reported the Saigon Giai phong newspaper.
According to Deputy Head of the VARANS Can Van Minh, Vietnam is pushing ahead with activities to prepare for the establishment of the first nuclear power plant in the country, emphasising safety as the most important factor.
The agency is currently building technical capacity to serve the safety assessment, he said, adding that the transfer of knowledge, training and expertise in the field from nuclear power developers like Japan is essential.-VNA
