Bangkok(VNA) – Thailand’s National Legislative Assembly (NLA) on April 21 passed inprinciple a bill on the Election Commission (EC) and another on politicalparties.
The two bills areessential for the next election which is scheduled for late 2018.
The Law on theElection Commission was endorsed with 210 approval votes out of 220 while theLaw on Political Parties was approved with 175 votes.
Both laws weresubmitted by the Constitution Drafting Commission (CDC) and CDC chairmanMeechai Ruchupan took charge of presenting the draft bills to the NLA.
The NLA membersdebated several issues, notably the replacement of provincial EC commissionersby central election observers and political parties’ operations. They approved thebills in principle but the contents recommended for revisions will be adjusted within45 days.-VNA
