Bangkok (VNA) – Synchronised attacks took place in at least 13locations in Thailand’s three southernmost provinces of Pattani, Narathiwat andSongkhla on April 19.
According to the Internal Security Operations Command, the attacks, mostly withgrenades, resulted in some deaths and injuries in the three provinces.
Seven attacks were reported in Narathiwat province. A special task force unitand a military base were hit by grenades.
Grenades were also thrown in two police stations and one checkpoint inPattani province while two bombs went off in front of a base of defencevolunteers and a group of patrolmen was ambushed in Songkhla province.
The attacks occurred in the context of Islamic militants in the countrydeclaring independence and rejecting the Government’s plan to set up a safezone in the southern region.
Southern Thailand is often unstable due to active Muslim separatistmilitants.-VNA
