Thailand: Business registrations in SEZs grow by 15 percent

Thailand’s Department of Business Development (DBD) has revealed a 15 percent investment growth in construction in special economic zones (SEZs).

Bangkok (NNT/VNA) – Thailand’s Department ofBusiness Development (DBD) has revealed a 15 percent investment growth inconstruction in special economic zones (SEZs).

According to DBD Director-General Banjongjitt Aungsusingh, the number ofbusiness registrations is higher in the SEZs than any other business areaswhich have seen a combined growth of only 7 percent.

Most business registrations in the SEZs are construction companies accountingfor 14 percent of all business investments. Banjongjitt also cited the need toexpedite the construction of basic infrastructure and other importantfacilities in the SEZs in order to attract more investors.

Foreign investments value at more than 2.7 billion baht in all 10 SEZs whileMalaysian investors are responsible for up to 55 percent of all foreigninvestment activities. Many of their investment projects, mostly related tonatural gas and rubber, are in Songkhla and Narathiwat provinces.-VNA
