Hanoi (VNA) – The exhibition “Hell-Dunkel”(Light-Dark), featuring 54 black and white photos by German photographerBarbara Klemm, will take place at the Goethe Institut in Hanoi from October 17to 29.
Co-organised by the Goethe Institut and the German Institutefor Foreign Cultural Relations (ifa), the event will display selected worksfrom the photographer in the former Federal Republic of Germany and the GermanDemocratic Republic, which document Germany’s path to reunification.
Barbara Klemm, considered the most important photographicchronicler of the old Federal Republic Germany, said at a press conference inHanoi on October 16 that she was delighted with the invitation to hold theexhibition in Vietnam.
She said her career began in the 1970s, when a strongcampaign spread around the world against the war in Vietnam.
She said she had followed German students on the streets tocapture parts of the demonstrations.
Born in 1939, Barbara Klemm worked as a photojournalist forthe Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung (FAZ) for over 40 years, overseeing manymajor political events. Today, her photos are regarded as icons of German 20th centuryhistory.
The photographer has worked exclusively with the analoguecamera throughout her life. Her film is black and white and she even abstainsfrom using flash. Klemm places her interest in people and focuses on socialrealities. –VNA
