Hanoi (VNS/VNA)- Vietnamese musicians will perform at a concert combining traditional musicand romantic poems by German poet Heinrich Heine tonight at the GoetheInstitute in Hanoi.
Heine(1797-1856) was one of the most famous German romantic poet, famous for hislove poems as well as for his subtle irony. Some of his poems are recited atschools and at public events, said the institute’s director Wilfried Eckstein.
TheVietnamese version of Heine’s Lyric Intermezz by Chu Thu Phuongwas released at the end of last year in Hanoi.
"Thisversion cannot be performed with traditional music," said the concertmusic editor Vu Nhat Tan. "It needs a second adaption by musician DamQuang Minh to make the German poems suitable for Vietnamese traditionalmusic".
Tan and People’s Artist Thanh Hoai edited traditional music pieces of chauvan (ceremonial singing); Hue singing; tuong (classicalopera), cheo (popular theatre) and xam (blindbusker’s singing).
Performingat the concert will be popular traditional artists such as People’s Artist MinhGai, People’s Artist Xuan Hoach and Meritorious Artist Thuy Ngan and Hoai.
"Byoffering Heine as material for contemporary appreciation and interpretation weintend to promote cultural dialogue," said Eckstein.
"We acknowledgethe great importance of Vietnamese traditional music for contemporaryaudiences. In Germany some poetry and texts from the Romantic period havealso gained relevance and appreciation. We are looking for works fromcontemporary authors from Vietnam and German to be translated and brought intoa dialogue with each other."
This isthe second time Goethe Institute has held a concert to combine German poetrywith Vietnamese traditional music. The first adapted poems by contemporary JanWagner. It was held in Hanoi and HCM City in May.
Tonight’sconcert will begin at 8pm including presentation of translator Phuong.-VNA
