Children festival highlights Italian culture

Vietnamese and international children will have a chance to learn about the diverse colours of Italian culture during International Children’s Day at the Vietnam Museum of Ethnology on May 27, 28.

Hanoi (VNA) - Vietnamese and international childrenwill have a chance to learn about the diverse colours of Italian culture duringInternational Children’s Day at the Vietnam Museum of Ethnology (VME) on May27&28.  

A series of culture activities will be held at CanhDieu (Kite) Building, Trong Dong (Bronze Drum) Building and Cham Building suchas elaborate Italian mask decoration, traditional costume colouring,bookmark-making and cooking.

"Children will learn about the significance of masks at Italian carnivals,and they will learn how to make a mask," said An Thu Tra, a VME staffmember. "Colouring traditional costumes will help children to understandthe various costumes and inspire them to make designs of their own".

Meetings with Italian people will be held at TrongDong Building at 9.30am, 11am, 2.30pm and 4pm, introducing a panorama ofItalian culture.

A festival highlight will be the cuisine,presented by Italian Ambassador to Vietnam Cecillia Piccioni. She will teachhow to make spaghetti and pizza at 10am on May 28. The Italian restaurants in Hanoiwill also attend the festival to serve Italian foods and drinks.

The event also includes art performances andItalian carnival demonstration by Italian people.

But Italy won’t be the only colourful nation on display. There will be folkgames, art and traditional costume performances from Cambodia, the Republic of Korea,Nigeria, Lao, Indonesia, Malaysia, Mongolia, Japan, Nepal, Thailand and Cuba atthe festival.

Traditional costumes will be sashayed by little models at 9.30am; 11am and 3.30pm.

"International folk games are often held at the VME, but games fromMongolia and Cuba will be introduced here for the first time," said Tra.

"The Mongolian game shagai (anklebones) is very interesting. Shagai is played using the cleanedand polished ankle bones of sheep. It is the most unique game in Mongolia. Mongolianstudents will bring their own shagai and play at the festival."

From Nghia Hung ward, the northern province of Nam Định, water puppeteers willperform at the festival. The puppeteers will teach little audiences how tocontrol the puppets and the audiences will have chance to discover backstage ofwater puppetry.

The children festival is co-held by VME and the Italianembassy in Hanoi, with hundreds volunteers from Hanoi University’s ItalianDepartment; Military Science Academy and international schools in Hanoi.

The festival will be held from 8.30am to 11.30amand from 2pm to 5.30pm on May 27 & 28.

In addition, an exhibition on Italian artistRaffaello Sanzio da Urbino will be held at the VME on June 2.-VNA

Over 100 burials from 4000 years ago discovered in Hanoi

Archaeologists from the Vietnam Institute of Archaeology, the Hanoi Museum and the Hanoi University of Social Sciences and Humanities have announced the discovery of over 70 graves from the pre-Dong Son period and 40 graves from Dong Son period at the Vuon Chuoi archaeological relic in Kim Chung commune, Hoai Duc district.

Festival promotes Vietnam-RoK cultural exchange

A cultural festival has been held in Uijeongbu city of the Republic of Korea (RoK)'s Gyeonggi province to mark the 10th anniversary of the Vietnam Women’s Association (VWA) in the country.

Hanoi Ao dai dance marks Vietnamese women’s day
