Ba Ria - Vung Tau (VNA) – Collector Nguyen NgocAn has donated 367 antiques from different periods in history to Ba Ria - VungTau province’s museum.
The donation was handed over in a ceremony held by the southernprovince’s Department of Culture and Sports on August 3.
The collection includes ancient tools, items andjewelries like stone-age axes and arrows, bowls, vases, plates, necklaces,bracelets, earrings, and rings. Many of them came from Sa Huynh, Dong Son andOc Eo cultures dating back from 500 – 700 BC. Others were created during theLy, Tran, Le, Mac and Nguyen dynasties from the 10th to early 20th century. Some were from China’s Han, Ming and Qing dynasties.
An, from Phan Thiet city in the south central province ofBinh Thuan, said he collects antiques because of his passion for exploring thediversity and richness in cultural life and customs of the ancient Vietnamese.
He wished that his donation would support the museum’s historyresearch and bring an expanded collection of items on display for the public,he added.
The collector has so far made 18 donations with a totalof over 5,500 ancient objects to cities and provinces nationwide.
Tran Van Triem, director of the province’s museum, highlyspoke of An’s donation, saying the museum will select donated items forexhibition as soon as possible. –VNA
