Jakarta (VNA) – Vietnam’s female sepak takraw team on September 1 cannotmake a surprise against the defending champion Thailand at the women’s quadrantfinals of the Asian Games (ASIAD) 2018, thus only bringing home a silver medal.
The team, including Nguyen Thi Quyen, Giap Thi Hien, DuongThi Xuyen and Nguyen Thi Phuong Trinh, was defeated 8-21 and 10-21.
However, it still reached its target of changing the medalcolour, as Vietnam only got a bronze at the previous Games in Incheon, theRepublic of Korea.
Earlier, Vietnam’s female team took a bronze medal at thewomen’s regu event after losing to the Republic of Korea (RoK) 0-2 in thesemi-finals.
The male team also had a successful tournament when winninga bronze for this first time at the men’s quadrant event.
As of 2:30 pm of September 1, Vietnam ranked 16th in themedal tally with four gold, 16 silver and 18 bronze medals.
China still topped the list with 123 gold, 87 silver and 63bronze medals.-VNA
