Hanoi (VNA) - Vietnamese Grandmaster Le QuangLiem won the ninth match at the Tradewise Gibraltar Chess Festival 2018 inEngland on January 31.

The former world blitz chess champion, Liem, defeated AndreyEsipenko of Russia after 64 moves.

With the advantage of holding the white pawn, the Ho Chi MinhCity-born player controlled the game.

Earlier in the eighth match, Liem had an important win againstDvirnyy Danyyil of Italy.

With four wins and five draws, Liem has gained 6.5 points torank 17th out of 150 participants.

Nakamura Hikaru of the United States, Vachier-Lagrave Maximeof France and Rapport Richard of Hungary are leading the event with the samepoint of seven.

The No 6 seed, Liem, will meet Dubov Daniil of Russia in thelast match. - VNA

Over 100 burials from 4000 years ago discovered in Hanoi

Festival promotes Vietnam-RoK cultural exchange
