Mexico City (VNA) – Vietnamese lifter Le Van Cong on December 4 made a new world’srecord in the men’s 49kg at the ongoing World Para Weightlifting Championships 2017in Mexico City.
Congsecured his best score at the fourth lifting with 183.5kg, surpassing allrivals and breaking the world’s and also his own record (183kg) set in 2016.
Thisis the first gold medal of the Vietnamese team at the World Para WeightliftingChampionships 2017.
OnDecember 4 evening, Vietnamese Ambassador to Mexico Nguyen Hoai Duong and staffmembers of the Vietnamese Embassy visited the Vietnamese sport delegation andcongratulated the team and weightlifter Cong.
Meanwhile,Vietnam earned one more silver medal at the World Para Swimming Championships 2017which is also underway in Mexico City.
Inthe men’s 50m backstroke S5, swimmer Vo Thanh Tung came second with a time of40”36.
After three days of theevent, the Vietnamese team seized a total of four medals, including two silversand two bronzes. On December 2, Vo Thanh Tung brought home the first bronze inthe men’s 100m freestyle-S5.
Trinh Thi Bich Nhu andDo Thanh Hai won one silver and one bronze in the women’s and men’s 100mbreaststroke SB5 on December 3, respectively.
Five Vietnameseswimmers, namely Vo Thanh Tung, Nguyen Thanh Trung, Trinh Thi Bich Nhu, TranQuoc Phi and Do Thanh Hai are participating in the World Para SwimmingChampionships 2017. The event has drawn athletes from 57 countries around theworld.-VNA
