Hanoi (VNA) - Vietnam returned home with two gold medals from the 15thAsian Karate Federation Cadet, Junior & U21 Championships 2016, whichclosed in Indonesia on November 27.
NguyenThanh Truong won his gold in the men’s U70kg event and Nguyen Thi Ngoan triumphedin the women’s U61kg category.
Vietnameseathlete Nguyen Anh Nguyet pocketed a silver medal in the women’s U54kg event,while Nguyen Thi Viet Trinh came second in the women’s U68kg competition.
Kata(performance) competitors also entered the top three list, with three bronzemedals – Tran Thi Khanh Vi in the women’s U50kg; Thai Thanh Bich Ngoc in thewomen’s U47kg; and Le Thi Khanh Ly in the women’s kata category.
Vietnamranked fifth in the medal tally. Japan, home to martial art, bagged 20 titlesto claim the top position.
Karatehas been added to the Tokyo Olympics in 2020. Vietnam expect to send bothkumite and kata athletes to Tokyo. According to the rules, each continent willhave 10 representatives to the Olympics.-VNA
