Vietnam returned home empty-handed from the Asian Gymnastics Championships, which ended in Japan on August 2.
Despite six of its gymnasts entering different finals, the Vietnamese delegation failed to make it to the top three in any category.
Prior to the championships, Vietnam had set a target of winning two gold medals.
World Cup winner Phan Thi Ha Thanh stood seventh with 14,750 points in the women's balance beam event.
Her failure was attributed to a knee injury.
Le Thanh Tung was expected to win the men's vault gold, but he blew his chance with a faulty landing. He too ranked seventh, followed by his teammate Nguyen Tien Dat.
In the men's exercise event, Tung came fifth, while Hoang Cuong was placed sixth.
Four-time SEA Games winner Dinh Phuong Thanh was not successful on the parallel bars, his strong point.
The team will next compete in the world tournament in October in Scotland.-VNA
