Hanoi (VNA) – The film “Rom” by Vietnamese directorTran Thanh Huy has won the “Best First Feature” award at the 24th Fantasia international film festival.
Held annually in Montreal, Canada, Fantasia is one of thebiggest cinematography events in the Northern America region.
This year, due to COVID-19 pandemic, the film festival onlyannounced the awards online.
“Rom” tells a story aboutstreet and homeless children who sell lottery tickets to make ends meet in thebuzzing metropolitan Ho Chi Minh City.
The main character, a boy named Rom, tries toraise money to find the whereabouts of his parents, who abandoned him when hewas a child.
Director Tran Thanh Huy spent seven years tofinish the movie, originated from his short film which was screened atthe Cannes FilmFestival in 2013.
Last year, the film won the“New Current” prize at the 24th InternationalBusan Film Festival heldin the Republic of Korea./.
