At the opening ceremony of the event (Photo: VNA)Berlin (VNA) – A Vietnamday (Vietnam Tag) was held at University of Hamburg of Germany on June 22 tocelebrate its 100th founding anniversary (1919-2019).
Organised by the Vietnamesestudies department at the university’s the Asia-Africa Institute, the event,named Vietnam Tag – Scent of Indochina, brought together foreign visitors,lecturers, students, and Vietnamese expatriates in Hamburg and neighbouringareas, who shared an interest in Vietnamese cultural values.
Prof. Thomas Engelbert, head ofthe Vietnamese studies faculty the university, said the Vietnam Tag promotesnot only Vietnamese studies in Germany but also the nation’s traditionalculture to international friends.
Visitors to the event were enabledto join various cultural spaces that introduced Vietnamese folk paintings,calligraphy, tea, ancient costumes, and traditional music. They also had achance to attend a Vietnamese language class and take part in local folk games.

Professor Engelbert said theVietnam Tag contributes to boosting Vietnam – Germany ties, particularlyeconomic cooperation.
According to him, in 2017,ASEAN-Germany trade hit 57.94 billion EUR, with Vietnam taking the lead amongthe bloc members.-VNA
