Vietnamese author wins Japan manga award

Tokyo (VNA) – Vietnamese author Can Tieu Hyreceived the Silver Award of the 10th International Manga Awards at a ceremonyheld in Tokyo by the Japanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs on February 6.

The author, whose real name is Phan Cao Ha My, won theaward with her debut work “Dia Nguc Mon” (Gateway to Underworld). This is thesecond Vietnamese manga work to win an award at the contest, after “Long ThanTuong” (Holy Dragon Imperator) by Nguyen Thanh Phong and Nguyen Khanh Duong.

A total of 14 works were honoured at the ceremony. TheGold Award was granted to The Master of Arms by Joel Parnotte and XavierDorison from France. Other Silver Awards went to the Scavengers by Han Zuzhengfrom China, and The Heart of Darkness by a group of authors from Italy,including Laura Iorio, Roberto Ricci and Marco Cosimo D’amico.

Machiko Satonaka, head of the judging panel, said thatHy’s work delivers a broad viewpoint about the world, helping readersunderstand life’s meaning.

The Japan International Manga Awards were founded in2007 by the Japanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs, with the purpose of expandinginternational exchange and mutual understanding through manga culture. Theawards aim to honour foreign manga artists who help develop manga cultureworldwide.

It is a prestigious annual contest that draws hundredsof authors worldwide. There were 296 entries from 55 countries and territoriesat this year’s awards.-VNA

Over 100 burials from 4000 years ago discovered in Hanoi

Festival promotes Vietnam-RoK cultural exchange

Hanoi Ao dai dance marks Vietnamese women’s day
