Tokyo (VNA) - Vietnamese athletes begin competing at the Tokyo 2020 OlympicGames on July 23.

ArcherDo Thi Anh Nguyet was the first Vietnamese athlete to compete at the Games from9am (local time). 

Thisis also the first time that Vietnamese archers have qualified for the globalsporting event. 

The20-year-old archer is competing against 63 rivals in the women’s recurve bowcategory, which is her forte.

On thesame day, Nguyen Hoang Phi Vu, another archer of Vietnam, will also start hisjourney in the men’s recurve category. He will also confront 63 rivals in theevent.

If thetotal points of the two archers are among the top 16, they will advanceto the next round of the mixed team category slated for July 24. In addition,their points are counted at the women’s and men’s singles. 

TheVietnamese delegation to the Tokyo Olympics comprises 43 members, including 18athletes. They will compete in 11 sports, namely swimming, weightlifting, judo,shooting, badminton, boxing, gymnastics, taekwondo, archery, athletics androwing.

TheTokyo 2020 Olympics will take place from July 23 to August 8. The Olympics isthe largest sporting event in the world. It is held every four years, bringingtogether the top athletes from countries all over the world./.

Over 100 burials from 4000 years ago discovered in Hanoi

Festival promotes Vietnam-RoK cultural exchange

Hanoi Ao dai dance marks Vietnamese women’s day

Vietnam attends UNESCO Executive Board’s 220th session in France
