Vietnamese artists to attend German exhibition Documenta for first time

Vietnam’s artist Nguyen Trinh Thi and Nha San Collective have been selected to participate the 15th edition of contemporary arts exhibition Documenta (Documenta 15) in Germany’s Kassel next year.

Hanoi (VNA) – Vietnam’s artist Nguyen Trinh Thi and Nha San Collective havebeen selected to participate the 15th edition of contemporary artsexhibition Documenta (Documenta 15) in Germany’s Kassel next year.

Documenta15 marks the first time Vietnam has sent representatives to the event, saidcurator Ace Le from Singapore.

Thiis a Hanoi-based filmmaker and artist. Thi uses montage to compose her works,drawing on different image media, from her own audio and visual recordings tofound footage and still images from postcards, photography, newsreels,Hollywood films and ethnographic footage. She is also interested inincorporating new media into current works, including organic materials andnatural forces.

Herfilms and video art works have been shown at festivals and art exhibitions,including the 9th Asia Pacific Triennial of Contemporary Art, Brisbane (2018);21st Biennale of Sydney (2018); International Film Festival Rotterdam (2016);Jeu de Paume, Paris (2015); CAPC musée d’art contemporain de Bordeaux (2015);13th Lyon Contemporary Art Biennale (2015); Asian Art Biennial, Taichung(2015), among others. 

In2009, Thi founded Hanoi DOCLAB, an independent centre for documentary film andthe moving image in Hanoi. In 2015 – 2016, she was a fellow of the DAADArtists-in-Berlin Programme.

NhaSan Collective began operating as an independent artist collective in Hanoi in2013, when a group of friends set up a publicly accessible space.

NhaSan Collective has worked with fellow companions and collaborators to organizeexhibitions, workshops, film screenings, talks, and other activities as asupport platform for artists in the community./.

Over 100 burials from 4000 years ago discovered in Hanoi

Archaeologists from the Vietnam Institute of Archaeology, the Hanoi Museum and the Hanoi University of Social Sciences and Humanities have announced the discovery of over 70 graves from the pre-Dong Son period and 40 graves from Dong Son period at the Vuon Chuoi archaeological relic in Kim Chung commune, Hoai Duc district.

Festival promotes Vietnam-RoK cultural exchange

A cultural festival has been held in Uijeongbu city of the Republic of Korea (RoK)'s Gyeonggi province to mark the 10th anniversary of the Vietnam Women’s Association (VWA) in the country.

Hanoi Ao dai dance marks Vietnamese women’s day

More than 70,000 women from across the capital city of Hanoi dressed up in Ao dai (traditional long dress) and participated in a folk dance ensemble on October 20 to mark the 70th anniversary of the liberation of Hanoi and the 94th founding anniversary of the Vietnam Women’s Union.

Vietnam attends UNESCO Executive Board’s 220th session in France
