Hanoi (VNA) – Vietnam’s No.1 cyclist Nguyen Thi That won a gold medal atthe Asian Road and Para Cycling Championship in Myanmar on February 11.
She overcame 26 rivals, including powerhouses from China,Japan and the Republic of Korea, to take first place in the women’s 106km roadrace.
That brought into play her strong point of sprinting in thefinal metres to leave behind Chinese Taipei’s Huang Tung Ying and Chang Yao towin, with a time of 3hr 11.59min.
That won a silver medal at the Asian Games in 2014, and adoubles title during last year’s Southeast Asian Games. This was her firstcontinental title.
She will have a three-month training course in Switzerlandstarting March 1 to prepare for her gold medal competition at the coming AsianGames in Indonesia in August.
That’s medal was the second won by Vietnam at the Myanmarcompetition. On February 8, her junior male teammate, Huynh Minh Nghia, grabbeda bronze medal in the time trial 22km event.-VNA
