The Vietnamese athletics squad won 10 gold, seven silver and 13 bronze medals to rank second in the Southeast Asian Junior Athletics Championships, which wrapped up on June 7 at HCM City’s Thong Nhat Stadium.
Tran Hue Hoa and Duong Van Thai performed brilliantly to bring home four gold medals. Hue won gold in the girls’ high jump event with 1.73 m and the girls’ triple jump event wih 12m78.
Thai ran 1:56.77 and 9:12.86 to come in first in the boys’ 800m and the men’s 3,000m event, respectively.
Luu Thi Tiep took gold in the girls’ long jump event with 5m75, while Nguyen Thi Huyen and Nguyen Thi Thuy added two gold medals in the girls’ 800m event with 2 minutes 17.23 and the girls’ 300m event with 25.07, respectively.
The three remaining gold medals belonged to Bui Thi Thu Thao in the girls’ heptathlon event, Khuat Huu Duy in the boys’ octathlon and Nguyen Thi Thu Huong in the girls’ 2,000m event.
Thailand proved to be an athletic powerhouse in the region, as they won 14 gold, 11 silver and 4 bronze medals to top the medal tally.
Malaysia ranked third with two gold, four silver and three bronze medals.
The fourth Southeast Asian Junior Athletics Championships attracted 198 athletes from nine ASEAN countries, minus the Philippines and East Timor , to compete for 27 sets of medals./.
42 Vietnamese movies to compete at 7th Hanoi Int’l Film Festival
A total of 42 Vietnamese movies will compete in three categories, namely feature films, short films, and contemporary Vietnam films, at the upcoming seventh Hanoi International Film Festival (HANIFF VII), according to the organising board.
