Vietnam-Uzbekistan Friendship Association holds national congress

Hanoi (VNA) –The Vietnam-Uzbekistan Friendship Association (VUFA) convened its fifthnational congress for the 2018-2023 term in Hanoi on October 14.

The congress voted 51members to the association’s executive committee for 2018-2023 term, with LuongPhan Cu re-elected as its president.

During the past tenure, theVUFA, consisting of over 300 members nationwide, had made efforts to diversifyexternal activities and boost relations between the Vietnamese and Uzbek peoplevia the communications work and the exchange of delegations as well as variouscooperation and people-to-people activities.

Setting goals for the newtenure, participants agreed to enhance the association’s operations and expandthe Vietnam-Uzbekistan traditional ties and comprehensive cooperation.

New tasks mentioned at thecongress included building its cooperation plan and programme for 2018-2023 andan annual cooperation plan with the Uzbekistan-Vietnam Friendship Association,and spreading information on Vietnam among Uzbek people through delegationexchanges, economic partnerships, and cultural and tourism exchanges.

Lauding the VUFA’s performanceand agreeing with its new tasks, Don Tuan Phong, Vice President of the VietnamUnion of Friendship Organisations (VUFO), suggested a number of measures tostep up people-to-people diplomacy with Uzbekistan in the coming time.

He said the associationshould focus on supporting the development of trade-investment partnershipsbetween the two countries’ enterprises, diversifying its activities, expandingmembership, and promoting Vietnam’s images among Uzbek people.

VUFA members and Vietnamesepeople should also get frequent updates on Uzbekistan and its relations withVietnam, he noted.

Speaking at the congress,Ishanxodjaev Kamoliddin Nuriddinovich, vice chairman of the Uzbekistancommittee for friendship and cooperation with foreign countries, said the Uzbekpeople always stand side-by-side with their Vietnamese counterparts in order topush up bilateral cooperation across all spheres.

On the occasion, the VUFAreceived a Friendship Order bestowed by the Vietnamese President for itscontributions to Vietnam-Uzbekistan friendship and solidarity in the pasttime.-VNA
