Hanoi (VNA) – The Vietnam-Uzbekistan Friendship Association held a friendship exchange event in Hanoi on August 27 to mark Uzbekistan’s 25th Independence Day (September 1) and Vietnam’s 71st National Day (September 2).
President of the association Luong Phan Cu said that right after Uzbekistan declared independence in 1991, the two countries set up diplomatic ties on January 17, 1992.
Since then the two sides have conducted regular delegation exchanges, and seen positive development in bilateral cooperation in trade as well as in the fields of oil and gas, light industry, agriculture, culture, sports and tourism.
He stressed the need for more people-to-people exchanges so as to further stimulate the bilateral relations.
On the occasion, the Vietnam-Uzbekistan Friendship Organisation received the Prime Minister’s certificate of merit for its operations and achievements over the past two decades.
Vice President of the Vietnam Union of Friendship Organisations Bui Khac Son expressed his hope that the association will continue fulfilling its task of strengthening people-to-people diplomacy to lift the two countries’ friendship and cooperation to a new height.-VNA
