Hanoi (VNA) - Vietnamese athletes grabbed six gold, eight silver andeight bronze medals at the 2019 World Para Athletics Grand Prix Series, whichwas held in Beijing, China, from May 10 to 12, Nhan Dan online reported.
Among the medallists, Truong Bich Van established herself as the most prominentathlete at the event by winning two gold medals in the women’s discus and shotput F56 categories, and one bronze in the women’s javelin F56.
Nguyen Manh Hung performed brilliantly as he bagged one gold medal in the men’sjavelin F57, one silver in the men’s discus F57, and one bronze in the men’sshot put F57.
The three remaining gold medals were won by Kieu Minh Trung in the men’sjavelin F55, Tran Van Nguyen in the men’s javelin F40, and Nguyen Thi Hai inthe women’s javelin F57.
The Vietnamese delegation placed third in the overall rankings.
The 2019 World Para Athletics Grand Prix in China is among a series of nineevents taking place around the world between February and August this year,ahead of the World Para Athletics Championships in November. Following China,the series next heads to Arizona in the United States and Nottwil inSwitzerland later this month.
The events are a test for the participating athletes to qualify for the 2019World Para Athletics Championships in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, and the 2020Paralympic Games in Tokyo, Japan. - VNA
