Vietnam, RoK soloists to perform at HCM City Opera House

HCM City (VNS/VNA) - Critically acclaimed pianist NguyenBich Tra and young violinist Joen Min from the Republic of Korea (RoK) willgive performances at a concert held at the HCM City Opera House on June 25.

The concert, titled “A Night of From West to East”, will highlight compositionsof Russian composers Sergei Rachmaninoff and Sergei Prokofiev, and Vietnam's TrongDai.

British-Vietnamese pianist Tra will play Rachmaninoff’s Piano Concerto No 3 in D major.

The three-movement composition was written in 1909, and premiered in New YorkCity in the same year with Rachmianioff as soloist.

Tra started her musical education at the Hanoi Conservatory of Music, beforecontinuing her studies at the Moscow Tchaikovsky Conservatory in Russia and theRoyal Academy of Music in UK.

She made her debut appearance with the Hanoi Conservatory Orchestra. She hasperformed at prestigious concert halls worldwide, such as Queen Elizabeth Halland Wigmore Hall in the UK, and Tokyo Opera City in Japan.

Tra’s discography includes many world premiere recordings of neglected pieces.Her series of recordings of German-Swiss composer Joachim Raff’s piano music,released on Grand Piano, has garnered wide critical acclaim, and was named‘Album of the Week’ by The Independent.

She is currently working with British-French-Israeli composer Nimrod Borensteinon solo recordings and performances of his works.
Seventeen-year-old Jeon Min will present Prokofiev’s Violin Concerto No 1 in D major, which wascompleted in 1917 and premiered in 1923 at Paris Opera.

Joen Min, whose father is a violinist and mother is a pianist, started playingviolin at the age of 4. She had her first appearance on stage when she was six,joining the Royal Thai Navy Orchestra.

She continued her studies in Russia at the age of 12, and then gained numeroustop prizes at international competitions such Gnessin InternationalCompetition, Bach International Competition, and Global Genius MusicCompetition. She made her debut at Tchaikovsky Hall in Russia.

Joen Min is currently attending Moscow Tchaikovsky Conservatory.

Both soloists will play along with the HCM City Ballet Symphony Orchestra andOpera (HBSO) symphony orchestra.

The orchestra will also perform the overture BinhMinh Nhip Pho (Dawn on the Streets) by veteran musician Trong Dai, agraduate of the Moscow Tchaikovsky Conservatory.

The concert will be led by conductor Tran Nhat Minh, who performed with theMoscow Tchaikovsky Conservatory Chamber Choir in Russia, France and Italy.

Over 100 burials from 4000 years ago discovered in Hanoi

Archaeologists from the Vietnam Institute of Archaeology, the Hanoi Museum and the Hanoi University of Social Sciences and Humanities have announced the discovery of over 70 graves from the pre-Dong Son period and 40 graves from Dong Son period at the Vuon Chuoi archaeological relic in Kim Chung commune, Hoai Duc district.

Festival promotes Vietnam-RoK cultural exchange

A cultural festival has been held in Uijeongbu city of the Republic of Korea (RoK)'s Gyeonggi province to mark the 10th anniversary of the Vietnam Women’s Association (VWA) in the country.

Hanoi Ao dai dance marks Vietnamese women’s day
