The works were painted in the 18th and 19th century, during which Japanese artswere witnessing exchanges in techniques and materials with western countries,creating high-valued works that combined both traditional and modern elements.
The paintings were drawn vertically, portraying Japanese culture, like thepainting of a peacock by painter Nishida Syunkou, a mountain by painter Hakuhouor those of Maiko by painter Kubota Syousui, among which Maiko is an apprenticegeisha performing dancing, singing and playing traditional musical instrumentin pubs or during parties./.
