HCM City (VNA) - The Yonex – Sunrise Vietnam Open 2018 BadmintonChampionships kicked off in Ho Chi Minh City on August 7.
More than 400 players from 26 nations and territories arecompeting in five categories of men’s and women’s singles, men’s and women’sdoubles and mixed doubles, with total prize money of 75,000 USD available.
According to the organising board, the level of this year’stournament will be upgraded from Grand Prix to World Tour Super 100, and theresults updated on the Badminton World Federation (BWF)’s website.
On the first day of competition, Vietnamese women duo Vu ThiTrang and Nguyen Thi Sen stopped at the qualifying round when losing 1-2 toChina’s Lu Chen and Ya Xu.
In the men’s singles, Vietnam’s Le Duc Phat was defeated byIndia’s Ajav Javaram with a result of 0-2.
In another match, top Vietnamese player Nguyen Tien Minh(world No.55) won 2-0 against Rahul Yadav Chittaboina of Indonesia.
The tournament will last until August 12.
The Yonex – Sunrise Vietnam Open is a prestigious tournamentheld annually in Vietnam. Its results are included in the BWF ranking system.- VNA
