Hanoi (VNA) - Vietnam entered the semi-final of the Southeast Asian Women’s Football Championship after beating the Philippines 4-0 on July 28 in the Group A second round match in Mandalay, Myanmar.
Just seven minutes from the start Nguyen Thi Hoa opened the score with a straight shot to the far corner.
The former champions continued to dominate the game with consecutive attacks. And they easily netted another goal before the interval through midfielder Nguyen Thi Tuyet Dung.
Dung who won the national Silver Ball 2015 has grabbed five goals and leads the best scoring chart of the tournament.
The second half saw a repeat with striker Huynh Nhu made it 3-0 at the 71st mark. Captain Nguyen Thi Minh Nguyet, who will retire after the championship, added the fourth goal eight minutes later.
The Philippines, with more than half their members being naturalised players, did not find a solution to Vietnam’s stormy attempts. According to statistics, they did not even make a single on-target kick and had no corner kick as well.
The second win pushed Vietnam to the top of the group with six points.
Vietnam will play defending champions Thailand, who are at the second place, on July 30 .
In a later game, Thailand defeated Singapore 8-0.
In Group B actions on July 27, hosts Myanmar trounced East Timor 17-0 and Australian U-20 beat Malaysia 4-0.
The Australians will face East Timor while Malaysia play Myanmar on July 29.-VNA
