Hanoi (VNA) – Vietnam lost 0-1 througha last minute goal to Australia in a Group A match of the Asian FootballConfederation (AFC) U16 Women’s Championship’s second qualifier in Laos onMarch 5.
The Vietnamese players foxed their opponents inthe early stages by going straight on the attack from the kick-off.
But the hot weather conditions saw theVietnamese team run out of energy as they failed to keep up their high-tempostart.
Despite that, it was not until the 89th minutethey went behind through a strike by Australia’s Jordan Jasnos.
With two wins, Australia secured a ticket to theknock-out round while Vietnam need to beat Iran in the last round game on March7 to qualify. Earlier, Vietnam defeated hosts Laos 1-0 in the opener on March 3.
In the first qualifying round, Vietnam defeated Lebanon 7-0,Bahrain 14-0 and the United Arab Emirates 4-0, and lost 2-0 to hosts Bangladeshin Group F. These results secured the team the second place and a spot in thenext round.
The second qualifying round include eight teams and dividedinto two groups.
The two winners of each group will qualify for the final roundof the AFC Women’s U16 Championship with the hosts Thailand together with thewinner, runner-up and second runner-up of the previous tournament, namely theDemocratic People’s Republic of Korea, the Republic of Korea and Japan.-VNA
