Top ten sports, culture, tourism events in 2013

The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism has selected 10 outstanding events in the area of culture, sports and tourism during 2013, reported by the Nhan Dan online newspaper, as follows:
The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism has selected 10 outstandingevents in the area of culture, sports and tourism during 2013, reportedby the Nhan Dan online newspaper, as follows:

1. Thereview of the 15-year implementation of the Resolution of the CommunistParty of Vietnam Central Committee, eighth tenure, on building anadvanced Vietnamese culture imbued with national identity.

2.Don Ca Tai Tu (a traditional musical art form of the south) was listedas a UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humankind; and for the firsttime, Vietnam was elected to the World Heritage Committee of theUNESCO.

3. The National Great Solidarity - VietnameseCultural Heritage Week; the fifth Quang Nam Heritage Festival 2013; theNgo boat race of Khmer people in the Mekong delta; the eighth Tay Bac(Northwest) Cultural, Sports and Tourism Festival.

4. Thecultural days and weeks celebrating the anniversary of diplomatic tieswith other countries and a festival featuring arts of Vietnam, Laos,Cambodia, and Myanmar.

5. Vietnam Year of Family 2013 and the second national conference to honour outstanding cultural families.

6. Achievements of the Vietnamese sports teams at internationalcompetitions: The third place among 44 countries and territories at 4thAsian Indoor and Martial Arts Games; the third position in the medaltally among 11 participating countries at the 27th SEA Games; theseventh place among 45 countries and territories at the second AsianYouth Games; the fifth position among 41 countries and territories atthe Asian Youth ParaGames.

7. Successful performances ofathletes at international tournaments: swimmer Nguyen Thi Anh Vien withthree gold medals and one silver medal at the second Asian Youth Games,and three gold, two silver, one bronze medal, breaking SEA Games recordsat the 27 SEA Games; gymnast Nguyen Ha Thanh with a gold medal at theGrand Prix Osijek 2013; shooter Hoang Xuan Vinh with the first goldmedal for Vietnam at the World Shooting Cup 2013; Le Quang Liem with theWorld Blitz Chess Championship; badminton player Nguyen Tien Minh with abronze medal at BWF World Championships.
8. Sports festivals at all levels towards the seventh National Sports Festival in 2014.


9. Vietnam welcomed 7.5 million foreign guests, 3.5 million domesticvisitors and total revenue from the tourism sector reached 200 trillionVND (9.4 billion USD), two years ahead of schedule. And

10.The National Tourism Year for the Red River Delta-Hai Phong 2013, andthe international conference on spiritual tourism for sustainabledevelopment in 2013.-VNA

Over 100 burials from 4000 years ago discovered in Hanoi

Archaeologists from the Vietnam Institute of Archaeology, the Hanoi Museum and the Hanoi University of Social Sciences and Humanities have announced the discovery of over 70 graves from the pre-Dong Son period and 40 graves from Dong Son period at the Vuon Chuoi archaeological relic in Kim Chung commune, Hoai Duc district.

Festival promotes Vietnam-RoK cultural exchange

A cultural festival has been held in Uijeongbu city of the Republic of Korea (RoK)'s Gyeonggi province to mark the 10th anniversary of the Vietnam Women’s Association (VWA) in the country.

Hanoi Ao dai dance marks Vietnamese women’s day

More than 70,000 women from across the capital city of Hanoi dressed up in Ao dai (traditional long dress) and participated in a folk dance ensemble on October 20 to mark the 70th anniversary of the liberation of Hanoi and the 94th founding anniversary of the Vietnam Women’s Union.

The Vietnam Jungle Marathon (VJM) returns for its seventh edition, welcoming around 1,500 runners from almost 40 nations to the stunning trails of Pu Luong Nature Reserve in Thanh Hoa province on October 19, featuring picturesque 10km to 70km routes.

Vietnam attends UNESCO Executive Board’s 220th session in France

Vietnamese Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and Chairman of the Vietnam National Commission for UNESCO Ha Kim Ngoc led a Vietnamese delegation to attend the 220th session of the UNESCO Executive Board on October 14-16 in Paris, which saw the participation of representatives from 58 member countries and over 100 observer countries.
