The People’s Committee of the central province of Thua Thien - Hue plans to develop local social welfare networks from 2016-2025 to meet the demands of beneficiaries, contributing to sustainable development.
Director of the provincial Labour-War Invalids and Social Affairs Department Nguyen Thanh Kiem said public and private social welfare unit networks provide services and care for the elderly, disadvantaged children, the disabled and rehabilitants.
In an attempt to improve community capacity and awareness in social welfare activities, from 2016-2025, the province will continue to promote, repair and build social welfare units such as a social activity centre, a nursing home at Tinh Duc pagoda and an expanded Hue SOS children village. It will mobilise social sources for improving support activities.
To date, the province has 23 social supporting units—four public and 19 non-public units, nurturing 1,551 individuals including orphans, the elderly, the disabled and others.
Notably, the Duc Son Pagoda orphanage in Thuy Bang commue, Huong Thuy town is home to 200 impoverished children and orphans.
However, most of the centres lack health and rehabilitation equipment, particularly occupational orientation and community re-integration support activities.-VNA
