Bangkok (VNA) – Thailand’s general election is scheduled to take place in late2018, Deputy Prime Minister-cum-Defence Minister General Prawit Wongsuwon wasquoted by the country’s media on April 5 as saying.
Thailand’spolitical parties will be still under restrictions after the country’s newconstitution takes effect on April 6, he added.
Talkingwith the press after a weekly cabinet meeting on April 4, Thai Prime MinisterPrayut Chan-ocha also said that political parties have to wait as orders needto be maintained until the election. However, PM Chan-ocha did not mention thedate of the election.
Accordingto a timetable stated in the new constitution, it takes 570 days to draft andapprove new laws. Therefore, Thailand cannot hold the general election until November2018.-VNA
