Thailand approves purchase of Chinese tanks

Thailand’s cabinet on April 4 approved the purchase of 10 Chinese tanks worth 58 million USD to replace an old US model.

Hanoi (VNA) – Thailand’scabinet on April 4 approved the purchase of 10 Chinese tanks worth 58 million USDto replace an old US model.

The deal is the second of the threeplanned purchases of 49 tanks from China.

A spokesman from the Thai government SansernKaewkamnerd said these tanks will replace the small and old M41 ones.

According to Thai Defence MinisterPrawit Wongsuwan, Thailand has used the US’s M41 tanks since the second WorldWar.

In 2016, Thailand bought 28 tanksfrom China. In January, its cabinet approved 380 million USD to buy a submarinefrom China and is considering buying three more. -VNA
