Bangkok (VNA) – The National LegislativeAssembly (NLA) has rejected all proposed candidates for the Election Commission(EC), further complicating the country’s upcoming general election.
During an election on February 22, no one among theseven proposed candidates received 50 percent of votes from 248 members of theNLA to become new EC members.
To become eligible, each candidate is required to receive atleast 124 "yes" votes from 248 legislators.
According to the constitution, the selectionprocess will have to restart, and the seven candidates are not eligible forfuture selections.
A new selection committee will be set up in 20days, while the selection process will take 90 days. The NLA will then takeanother 45 days to review the process.-VNA
