Critics say the bill will ensure the military’srole in Thailand’s politics for at least 20 years after a general electiontentatively set for 2018.
The NLA enacts the National Strategy Act as law,said Pornpetch Wichitcholchaik, NLA President.
The law will set up a national strategy committeeto be chaired by Prime Minister Prayuth Chan-ocha. It will include the heads ofthe armed forces, secretary-general of the National Security Council, chairmenof the National Economic and Social Development Board, and experts inother fields.
The committee will coordinate with the cabinetof future governments to revise plans for national strategy for every fiveyears in the next two decades. -VNA
