Bangkok (VNA) – Thailand and Cambodia have pledged to boost agreements signed during a joint cabinet meeting in December 2015 and support each other at the UN, said Thai Foreign Minister Don Pramudwinai on February 26.
The minister’s announcement came after a discussion with his Cambodian counterpart Hor Namhong on the sidelines of the ASEAN Froreign Ministers’ Retreat in Laos’ capital of Vientiane.
The Thai minister stated that Hor Namhong has insisted Cambodia will fully support Thailand in its bid to become as a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council for 2017-2018.
In return, Thailand assured that Cambodia will receive its support to gain membership in the UN Economic and Social Council for the same period, the minister added.
Aside from committed cooperation, the pair discussed ASEAN’s upcoming meetings, including the ASEAN-Russia Summit in Sochi, which is scheduled for May this year.-VNA
