Bangkok (VNA) – Thailand and Cambodia have agreed to raise bilateral trade to 150 billion USD in the next five years.

The agreement was reached during talks between Thai Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha and his visiting Cambodian counterpart Hun Sen on December 18.

After the talks, Thai Deputy Government Spokesman Major-General Werachon Sukondhapatipak said the sides will operate trans-border railway services, upgrade roads connecting the two nations and develop economic zones.

According to a draft agreement from the talks, the Bangkok-Phnom Penh railway will become operational by the end of 2016.

In the first half of 2016, another railway will be built connecting Thailand’s border province of Aranyaprathet and Cambodia’s Poipet town. The infrastructure will be extended to Dawei, an economic hub in southeast Myanmar.
