Thailand and Cambodia have agreed to foster trade and investment along their borderline at the fifth meeting of the Thai-Cambodian Joint Trade Committee.

Bangkok (VNA) – Thailand and Cambodia have agreed to foster trade and investment along their borderline at the fifth meeting of the Thai-Cambodian Joint Trade Committee.

The meeting, held in Bangkok on December 6, was chaired by Thai Commerce Minister Apiradi Tantraporn and his Cambodian counterpart Sun Chanthol.

At the meeting, the Thai minister proposed both sides strengthen trade ties between the two country’s frontier cities through joint efforts.

In reply, Minister Sun Chanthol invited Thailand to invest in Cambodia’s special economic zones with the focus on food industry, electronics and information technology.

The two sides also talked on the possibility of opening a new border gate between Thailand’s Sa Kaeo province and Cambodia’s Banteay Meanchey and Battembang provinces in order to help ease congestion at other crossings.

Trade and investment between the two nations are forecast to markedly expand once the ASEAN Community is officially formed at the end of this year.-VNA
