Vietnam’s top swimmer Nguyen Thi Anh Vien has secured three gold medals at the ongoing Asian Age Group Championships 2015 in Bangkok, Thailand.
According to the Vietnam Aquatic Sports Association, the 19-year-old female athlete on October 1-2 pocketed the gold medals in the 100m butterfly, 200m medley and 200m freestyle events in Group A (18 years old and above).
She broke her own national butterfly record when finishing 100 metres in 1 minute and 1.08 seconds.
Vien also won three silver medals in the 400m freestyle, 800m freestyle and 200m backstroke events.
On the first two days of the tourney, the Vietnamese team reaped seven golds, five silvers and four bronzes, ranking third on the medal table after Japan and China.
The championships, held every four years, saw competitions in 44 events for the age groups of A, B (15 to 17), and C (14 and under). It will last through October 7.
At the last tournament in 2011, Vien bagged only one silver medal in the 400m individual medley and a bronze in the 200m individual medley.
Following the Bangkok tourney, she will leave for the International Military Sports Council’s Military World Games 2015 in the Republic of Korea and the sixth stage of the International Swimming Federation Swimming World Cup in Japan this October.-VNA
