Hanoi (VNA) – Vietnam’s disabled athletes failed to perform at their best in swimming and powerlifting on the second day of the Rio 2016 Paralympics, September 9 (Brazil time).
In the final of the women’s 50m butterfly S6 category, swimmer Trinh Thi Bich Nhu finished the race in 42.08 seconds, ranking sixth among the 10 athletes.
Powerlifter Nguyen Binh An, considered the leading contender for the gold medal in the men’s 54kg category, was unable to lift 178kg for three times, failing to repeat the historic achievement – a gold medal and world record – obtained by his teammate Le Van Cong in the 49kg category one day earlier.
An is currently in the first position for the men’s 54kg category in the rankings of the International Paralympics Committee. He also holds the Asian record with a lift of 183kg.
