Da Nang (VNA) – The central city of Da Nang is planning a series of supporting activities to provide more entertainment to visitors during the fifth Asian Beach Games (ABG 5) which will take place in the city from September 24 to October 3.
The municipal People’s Committee announced on September 14 that various festivals, exhibitions, art performances, sport exchanges and fashion shows will be held along the Han River and on the My Khe beach.
Vice Chairman of the municipal People’s Committee Dang Viet Duc pledged that the city will provide maximum support for the event’s organization.
The biennial Asian Beach Games, initiated by the Olympic Council of Asian (OCA), is one of the biggest sporting events in Asia. The first ABG took place in Indonesia’s Bali in 2008.
According to the General Department of Sports and Physical Training, the ABG 5 in Da Nang is expected to draw 10,000 participants, including 3,100 athletes and 1,500 coaches and supporting staff from 42 delegations from nations and territories across Asia.
The ABG 5 will host events in marathon swimming, water polo, kabaddi, men's beach football, volleyball, handball, three-a-side basketball, sepak takraw, beach martial arts (wrestling, sambo, jujitsu, kurash, pencak silat, muay Thai and Vietnamese traditional martial art), shuttlecock kicking, petanque, bodybuilding, boules (wooden ball), rowing and athletics.
This will be the first time Vietnam hosts the Games, a multi-sport Asian-level competition. The country has already hosted the Asian Indoor and Martial Arts Games in 2009 and the 2003 Southeast Asian Games.
A hotline in Vietnamese and English has been launched at 05111022 to provide support for participants and information on the ABG 5 for local residents and tourists.-VNA
