Bac Ninh (VNA) – Some 125 athletes are competing at the SoutheastAsian wrestling championship, which opened in the northern province of Bac Ninhon November 23.
The wrestlers, from Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore,Thailand and Vietnam, will grapple for 24 sets of medals in three events: folkwrestling, women’s freestyle wrestling and men’s freestyle wrestling.
According to Nguyen The Long, head of the wrestling department of the NationalSports Administration, the event attracted top wrestlers, including 48 fromVietnam, with thrilling matches on the cards.
The three-day championship will help Bac Ninh province popularise its peopleand land to domestic and international friends while promoting wrestling in thelocality, Vietnam and abroad.
It also aims to tighten solidarity among ASEAN member states, helping build apeaceful and prosperous bloc.-VNA
