Hanoi (VNA) – The Singapore Tourism Board and theSingaporean Embassy in Vietnam on March 23 morning opened the SingaporeFestival 2019, the first of its kind, at the pedestrian street around the HoanKiem Lake right in the heart of Hanoi.
Prominent among the participants were visiting Deputy PrimeMinister and Co-ordinating Minister for National Security of Singapore Teo CheeHean and member of the Party Central Committee and Chairman of the Hanoi People’sCommittee Nguyen Duc Chung.
Speaking at the ceremony, head of the Singaporean boardKeith Tan said the organisation of the first Singapore Festival in Vietnam isone of the key activities in the campaign to popularise Singapore’s tourism tothe country, thus further strengthening bilateral diplomatic relations. The officialexpressed his hope that through the event, visitors can feel a Singapore fromfine art, music, food to fashion.
Singaporean Ambassador to Vietnam Catherine Wong also stressedthat they will bring Singapore closer to the people of Hanoi and helpVietnamese get a better understanding of the unique experiences found only inSingapore.
For his part, Chung highlighted that Singapore is always atraditional partner of Vietnam since the establishment of bilateral diplomaticrelations on August 1, 1973. In recent years, the relations between the twocountries in general and between Hanoi and Singapore in particular have seenvigorous developments.
Hanoi, recognised by the UNESCO as the city for peace, hasbecome a friendly destination preferred by foreign visitors, including thosefrom Singapore, Chung stressed, adding that last year, visitors from Singaporeto Hanoi numbered more than 80,000, creating the 12th largestforeign tourists’ group to the capital, representing 28 percent of the totalSingaporean guests coming to Vietnam.
The festival will last through March 24with variousactivities like fashion shows, installation art, music performances and streetfood.-VNA
