Bangkok(VNA) – A seminar took place in Bangkok, Thailand on September 29 to promoteVietnam’s tourism among local public.

The event was heldby the Embassy of Vietnam in Thailand in partnership with the Vietnam NationalAdministration of Tourism (VNAT) and the Tourism Council of Thailand tointroduce Vietnam as a friendly country with socio-political stability andbeautiful landscapes and seek ways to enhance destination linkages and improvetours.

According to theVNAT, Vietnam welcomed approximately 10 million foreign visitors, including200,000 Thai nationals, in the first eight months of 2017, up 23 percent fromthe same period last year. The country expects to receive 3 more milliontourists by the end of this year.

Speaking at theevent, VNAT Deputy Director Ha Van Sieu highly spoke of Thailand’s initiativesto link tourist destinations of countries within the Ayeyawady-ChaoPhraya-Mekong Economic Cooperation Strategy (ACMECS) and CLMVT, such asEast-West Corridor and Heritage Journey.

Thanks to theinitiatives, Vietnam and Thailand are able to take advantages of theirstrengths to make visitors stay longer, Sieu said, adding that there should becloser coordination between relevant authorities and travel agencies from thetwo sides alongside more open policies of the two governments.

Head of the TourismCouncil of Thailand Pichai Raktasinha said Vietnam’s tourism industry has beenon the right track, reflected by an increasing number of international touristarrivals in recent years.

But the goal toattract 13 million foreign travellers this year does not match the country’sgreat potentials in tourism. So that, Vietnam needs to do better in tourismpromotional programmes in a bid to bring it closer to international friends, hesuggested.

VietnameseAmbassador Nguyen Hai Bang urged the two nations to step up cooperation intourism to promote “Two Countries, One Destination” when they are enjoyingstrong development in their relations, particularly in terms of economy, tradeand politics.-VNA
