Hanoi (VNA) – Artists from the Vietnam National Opera and Ballet will perform the romantic ballet “Giselle”at the Hanoi Opera House on October 21 and 22.
The ballet tells a story of Giselle, a poor girl who dies of a broken heart after discovering the prince she loves is betrothed to another. The Wilis, a group of abandoned brides who rise from the graves to dance men to death, summon Giselle from her grave. They target Prince Albert for death, but Giselle's great love frees him from their grasp.
The two-act Giselle was first performed in Paris in 1841. It is still widely beloved and popular at various stages all over the world.
One of the most talented Vietnamese dancers, Dam Han Giang, will play the role of Prince Albert, while Giselle will be acted by ballerina QuynhNga.
The performance of Giselle is part of the culture ministry’s project that facilitates regular drama, chamber music and traditional opera shows at the Hanoi Opera House beginning this autumn.
The move aims to provide audiences with high-quality performances in the historic opera house. The ministry has assigned the Performing Arts Department to work with 12 theatres managed by the ministry to draft performing schedules through the end of the year.-VNA
