UNESCO-recognised Ha Long Bay (Photo: VNA)Hanoi (VNA) - The northern coastal province of Quang Ninh welcomed200,000 visitors during the New Year holiday, up 30 percent compared to thesame period last year.
Foreign tourists to Quang Ninh mostly arrived from traditional markets such asChina, the Republic of Korea and Japan, reported the Voice of Vietnam (VOV).
During the first day of 2019, the World Heritage Site of Ha Long Bay welcomedmore than 10,000 visitors, including over 1,300 local visitors in addition toover 9,000 foreign visitors. This brought the total number of visitors up tonearly 55,000 during the first four days of the New Year.
Besides, four and five-star hotels were also operating at close to fullcapacity, reaching 95-98 percent capacity.
The sharp rise in the number of tourists was attributed to the organisation ofmajor events in the province such as the inauguration of Van Don InternationalAirport, Ha Long International Passenger Port, and the opening of the HaLong-Van Don Expressway.
Pham Ngoc Thuy, Director of the Quang Ninh Tourism Department, said travelcompanies and hotels in the locality have organised a wide range of activitiesto welcome in the New Year and provide visitors with an exciting experience.
He praised concerted efforts by local authorities, relevant agencies, travelcompanies and residents to further develop tourism, improve people’s livingconditions and accelerate socio-economic development. – VNA
