Hanoi (VNA) – President Tran Dai Quang hosted a reception in Hanoi on May 31 for Queenof the Netherlands Máxima Zorreguieta Cerruti, the UN Secretary-General’sSpecial Advocate for Inclusive Finance for Development, who is on a workingvisit to Vietnam.

President Quangsaid he was delighted to see relations between Vietnam and the UN in generaland the Netherlands in particular have developed positively in many fields.

The StrategicPartnership on Climate Change Adaptation and Water Management (2010) and theStrategic Partnership on Sustainable Agriculture and Food Security (2014) arevivid evidence of the current fruitful relationship between Vietnam and theNetherlands, he elaborated.

The President saidpolitical meetings between senior leaders of the two nations in the recent pasthave laid a foundation for the bilateral comprehensive cooperation, noting withpleasure that the Netherlands is now the biggest European investor and is oneof the most important trade partners of Vietnam.

President Quangtook this occasion to thank Queen Máxima for her interest in microfinance inVietnam through her visit to the country in 2011. He spoke highly of theQueen’s efforts to enhance inclusive finance for developing nations as well as herongoing visit to study and share experience in promoting inclusive finance asVietnam has just embarked on this sphere.

Thanks to theimplementation of policies and activities related to inclusive finance such asmicrofinance development, credit for agriculture and rural areas, and socialsecurity, Vietnam has reaped a wide range of achievements in socio-economicdevelopment and poverty reduction that have been recognised by theinternational community, he noted.

The State leaderbelieved that inclusive finance will be a useful tool to effectively mobiliseresources, contributing to Vietnam’s socio-economic development and sustainablegrowth. In early 2017, the Government assigned the State Bank of Vietnam tobuild and promulgate a national inclusive finance strategy in 2020.

In this spirit,President Quang suggested Queen Máxima, in her capacity as a representative ofthe Netherlands and the UN Secretary-General’s Special Advocate for InclusiveFinance for Development, mobilise financial and technical resources from the UNand other international organisations to assist Vietnam in building thestrategy and share experience with the country.

Queen Máximacongratulated Vietnam on its achievements in hunger elimination, povertyreduction and socio-economic development over the past 30 years as well as itsoutcomes in deploying inclusive finance.

She saidinclusive finance will be a tool to effectively mobilise resources,contributing to Vietnam’s socio-economic development and sustainable growth andhelping people get easier access to official finance and banking services.

The Queen alsoaffirmed that the Netherlands is willing to share experience and cooperate withVietnam in the field of inclusive finance.-VNA
