Vietnam, Netherlands boost peacekeeping cooperation

The Netherlands wishes to expand relations with Vietnam, including cooperation in peacekeeping activities between the two countries’ armies, said Dutch Ambassador to Vietnam Nienke Trooster.

Hanoi (VNA) – The Netherlandswishes to expand relations with Vietnam, including cooperation in peacekeeping activitiesbetween the two countries’ armies, said Dutch Ambassador to Vietnam NienkeTrooster.

The diplomat made the remark during a meeting with Deputy Defence Minister Sen.Lieut. Gen Nguyen Chi Vinh in Hanoi on March 14 when she led a delegation fromthe Netherlands’s Ministry of Defence to visit the Vietnamese senior officer.

She said defence cooperation between the two countries has contributed toenhancing bilateral ties.

Briefing the host on the results of aworking session between the delegation and representatives of Vietnam’s PeaceKeeping Centre, the ambassador said the two sides agreed to boost exchanges ofexperts, experience sharing and training support for peacekeeping.

She also expressed her joy at Vietnam’s successes in UN peacekeeping operationsover the last three years.

For his part, Sen. Lieut. Gen Nguyen Chi Vinh lauded the ability and experienceof the Dutch Army in humanitarian assistance and peacekeeping.

The two defence ministries have considered the UN peacekeeping cooperation as apriority in defence ties between the two countries, he said, stressing the needfor the two sides to enhance experience sharing and exchange of delegations atall levels. -VNA.
