Party chief directs Central Military Commission’s work for 2018

Hanoi (VNA) – CPV Central Committee GeneralSecretary Nguyen Phu Trong has asked the Central Military Commission toregularly pay attention to strengthening the Party while preventing “self-evolution”and “self-transformation” behaviours and “peaceful evolution” plots by hostileforces.

The Party chief, who is also Secretary of the CentralMilitary Commission, made the request while chairing a conference in Hanoi on December15 reviewing national defence and military work 2017 and outline tasks for2018.

He lauded the Military Party Committee for completing alltasks set for the year, including offering strategic advices to the Party andState on national defence and military affairs, contributing to maintainingpolitical stability and peaceful environment for national development.

The army has completed the building of strategies, adoptedseveral important military and defence resolutions and projects, and successfullyheld a number of major drills to shore up its capacity. The army also played animportant role in the successful hosting of the Asia-Pacific EconomicCooperation (APEC) Year 2017, particularly the APEC Economic Leaders’ Week inthe central city of Da Nang in November. It reaped achievements in mass mobilisation,post-disaster and post-war recovery, as well as the United Nations peacekeepingmission.

Progresses have also made in technical logistics and national defence industry.

The Party General Secretary underscored the focal tasks for2018 – a key year to implement Resolutions by the 12th NationalParty Congress and the 10th Military Party Congress, including closelymonitoring of domestic and international situations to offer accurate andtimely advices to the Party and State, improving military training quality, anddeveloping defence industry and defence external relations.

The army must lead the way in rejecting wrongful opinionsand distorted allegations by hostile forces, he said, adding that he wished theMilitary Party Committee would continue standing united to accomplish nationaldefence – military and Party building tasks, thereby creating a driving forceto realise the Resolutions of the 12th National Party Congress andthe 10th Military Party Congress.

At the event, members of the Central Military Commissionconducted criticism and self-criticism in line with the Resolution of the fourthplenum of the 12th Party Central Committee.-VNA
