Thua Thien – Hue (VNA) – More than 500Lao students, who are studying in Vietnam’s central province of Thua Thien –Hue, were brought together on April 8 to celebrate Laos’ traditional New Yearfestival of Bunpimay.
The celebration was held by Hue University andThua Thien-Hue College of Education with traditional rituals such as prayingfor luck, splashing water and typing a string around a person’s wrist.
Lao students introduced the unique culture ofLaos through art performances.
Bunpimay festival is observed on April 13-16 annuallyto pray for good weather, health, abundant harvests and prosperity.
The programme helps cheer up Lao students andtightens friendship between the two countries.
On the occasion, the Lao Embassy in Vietnam andHue University presented certificates of merit to 60 outstanding Lao students.
Universities and colleges across Thua Thien-Hueprovince have trained about 1,100 Lao students via a cooperation programmebetween Vietnamese and Lao localities.
They have also built lodging for more than 500Lao students.
Schools have held culture, art and sportactivities for Vietnamese and Lao students to promote their their friendshipand mutual understanding
Annually, Thua Thien-Hue provides scholarshipstraining Vietnamese and pursuing higher education for Laos’ provinces ofSalavan, Sekong, Champasak and Khammuon.-VNA
